I have an SCPB-3 in mine (actually, I have two SCPB-3 in mine and a three-way microswitch) and it sounds superb.

its probably worth considering the sting bass which is the same bass but with a contoured body which many find more comfortable than the 51 slab

To be honest gareth, that's exactly my issue, the slab is the main factor why I've not made, nor planning on making, any offer.

I wud go for a sting then - more comfortable - less popular (= cheaper) due the sting inlay

Perhaps surprisingly, I find the slab body quite comfortable to play. The flat top is just right for resting your arm, sometimes I think it's better than the shaped version.
