Jimryan
Technically mornin all, So, yesterday afternoon I sat down to install the pots into the relay bass. However, the shafts on the pots from my precision are far too short. So I'll need to get some pots for it. Just had a look online. Help. Lin, log, split shaft, knurled shaft, capacitors. Too many things of something I know little about. All the bass needs is two volume and a tone. I've got a spare switchcraft jack socket already. Can someone either tell me what the bass needs, or point me in the direction of someone that can wire the three together for the bass. I've got 3 black knobs that came on the bass, we just need some pots now. They're the missing piece of the puzzle.
lettsguitars
All passive? Log pots for volume (250k) Linear for tone (250k). Split shaft for push fit knobs. Solid shaft for grub screw type knobs.
Jimryan
Yep, all passive. So I'm after 2 log pots, 1 linear, all split shaft but with a long shaft. What about the capacitor though? And the pots can be 500k can't they?
LukeFRC
Pots can be 500k yes, will make a bit of difference, but.... *shrugs* either will work. 250k is normal though just use the capacitor from the whatever the pots that didn't fit came from? otherwise any normal 0.1uF cap will do
lettsguitars
Higher rated pots suck more tone out of your bass it depends on the output of your pickups if you go too low with a high output it gets a bit 'all or nothing'. Caps are usually 45microfarad. The orange uns

When the MM pickup was installed, the guy changed all the pots to 500k ones and although the tone knob works, it's more of a master volume most of the time.
