johnbiffa
I am selling my immaculate ungigged, home studio use only, Cornford Carrera combo. Below is from the website, new now £1150 and hard to get, bargain at £570 with Roqsolid cover and could possibly be delivered personally down M1/A1 corridor or NE, W Mids and NW or buyer collects/meets up. This amp is the ideal canvas for you to create your perfect guitar tone on. This little beauty with your favourite guitar & pedal selection plugged into it will rock your world! The Cornford Carrera is low enough in power to get those searing solo sounds in either the home or studio, but it has the balls to work as a great small gigging amp. Such a versatile amp - you just switch the tubes around & all of a sudden it's like owning a new amp! Unlike most modern tube amps, the Cornford Carrera features a Class A tube power section & is hand wired point to point, rather than using PCB's (printed circuit boards). This ensures that you get the absolute purest tube tone out of your tube amplifier. THE REAR OF THE CARRERA SWITCHABLE POWER VALVE TYPES - OCTAL OR 9 PIN Here's what Cornford say about the Carrera Combo: This is a 1x12 Celestion Vintage 30 loaded combo, with a 5-8 Watt, all tube, class A amp section, perfect for home and studio applications. All point to point hand soldered wiring, no PCB's in sight and full of fantastic guitar tones. 5 to 8 watts output, depending on the output valve used. Output stage is 1x9 pin valve base suitable for an EL84/6BQ5 valve, switchable to 1x8 pin Octal valve base suitable for any of the following valves - 6V6, 6L6/588, EL34, KT66, KT77, or KT88/6550. The Cornford Carrera comes with 1xEL84 and 1x6V6 as standard. Six and a half years down the line comes the Carrera. "It was as a direct result of pressure from our players," says Paul C. "They kept telling us they wanted a Harly, but with a few more features, like reverb and an effects loop, so we've bowed to their requests and come up with the Carrera. But we've added a couple of our own ideas to make it even more interesting." The Carrera is a hand-built, point-to-point wired amp - "no PCBs of any sort" insists Paul - as well as the aforementioned reverb and effects loops, both entirely valve driven, Cornford has come up with an ingenious way to create different power ratings and tones from one amp. THE CORNFORD CARRERA Carrera - Specification TYPE: All valve, single channel, single ended Class A combo with solid-state rectification. lonestar
I had one of the early harlequins. I wish that I'd kept it. Turn everything to "2o'clock" hit a chord and smile. I bet this sounds just as lovely
johnbiffa
It is an amazing guitar sound, chimes well and roars just like an old Marshall but at sensible levels ! I would keep it but I am using NI Guitar Rig these days for my recording. Cheers

johnbiffa
You are absolutely right. the simple switching between preamp valves for the distinctive tone is pure genius......maybe I should reconsider my position !
51m0n
Recorded the old Harley a lot, sounds incredible with a good Ribbon (I would recommend a Cascade Fathead II with the Lundahl tranny for starters, but a Royer or Coles would be even better in all likelihood) and an sm58 on it blended together, anything from juuuust breaking up to thick lead sounds. If you have a great room then backing off a nice LDC as a room mic is a wonderful thing too. Great little amp, I cannot recommend this enough for anyone interested in 'properly recording' simply perfect guitar tones....
