Guild Starfire Bass announced at NAMM

Thomann are showing these with a price but they also say:

'The item you selected is currently unavailable and the distributor is probably unable to deliver at short notice.'

Is someone making these again or are they merely unavailable because they've been unavailable for years?

I think that is a US made limited edition (40 or so only) with NOS humbuckers and is different to, as well as much more expensive than, the Thomann model above which is apparently called Newark Street Collection..

Just noticed the ebay listing says: 'This 2012 Guild Starfire I bass is a special limited edition production run produced by the wonderful luthiers from Guild's New Hartford, CT factory. The bass in this listing is # 2 of only 11 ever produced'.

Wish they'd have done a two pickup one, but this is fine.

Cherry only too at the minute.

Used to own one in the early 80s. Nice bass but didn't get on with the short scale. I used to have to play the bottom string with only half the force of the other string or the notes would go sharp. It's the way I play, I can't help it.

There's a fair bit on Lets Talk Guild and Talk Bass. The reaction's been decidedly mixed regarding the quality but the sound is meant to be pretty close - whether it's close to a Hagstrom Bisonic or a Hammon Dark Star isn't clear.
