Have you tried lowering the pickup on the E string side? It could just be too close to that string giving more output ;)

I have, it worked to some extent but its at the point now where the 'E' side is as low as it will go and the rest is as high as it will go..... thinking of taking it to a guitar tech/ luthier to have a look at

Or you could be hitting the E string harder! :P

You may laugh, I did experience this when someone told me they had a problem with a bass

Lol, its not that, ive played other basses and not had this problem

I took the neck off my Yamaha BB614 last week, and was surprised at what a snug fit it was. By contrast the neck on my Fender Strat is a very sloppy fit, and where it sits into the body is very lumpy and not at all flat.

I have a Yamaha AES 620 les paul type guitar which is excellent quality, and I'd keep it over the Strat any day. I've done the usual guitarist thing of having Gibsons and Fenders in the past, but I'm a Yamaha man now. I do really fancy a Fender Jazz bass though!

Is the bass onthe right a Yamaha bass?
if so, that looks like replacement pick-ups that fit in the standard routed cavity.
You have more info?
