Another alternative is the very good 'Hydrogen' programme - designed for Linux but now on Windows XP too. I really like it - easy to use and free:
It's crap with garageband, in my opinion.

There is a standalone player now that is free, you can audition samples but I don't think that you can put stuff together.
thats because garageband is crap.

ive been using it with cubase sx3

I've downloaded this and it's a nice piece of software, but I'm having a problem with importing of drumkits, anybody else got this problem and do you know of any work around to the problem?

If all you want to do is build loops to jam along to then i would suggest cubase. It's nowhere near as frightrning as it first appears. I got my first recording setup only two weeks ago - PC running EZDrummer and Guitar Rig- and ive already got to grips with it. I would suggest that if you do get anything simpler then after a few months you would have exhausted all it functions whereas with cubase it will hold you in good stead for a long time to come.
Hope that helps.

This should see you right - Basically you have to keep on 'unzipping' the folders until you get a bunch of .wav files - copy that to the directory as appropriate and it will be fine. You can use 7Zip as shown here or Winzip if you have it.

Let me know of you have any problems - if in doubt just keep unzipping!!!

Cheers

Ampeg SVX is flippin ace! It's works stand alone as well, which is great for playing along to CDs with. As you have no doubt seen on the website, you have a range of different cabs and Amp selections. In the mix, I think they sound really authentic! Highly recommended.. also by a few seasoned pros I know too!

As for EZDrummer... I have used it in pro tools as well as cubase; we have Superior drummer 2, by the same company, on its way soon. Looks like it's going to be a real giant killer, as I undertsand the installation comes on sets of DVDs! AWESOME!

cheers dude. the ampeg program is sweet. in the past ive used the ampeg svx set to 8x10 and cl head with the tubescreamer from amplitube and that sounded pretty sweet.

on my stuff ive used the standard kit. on stuff for my metal band ive used drum kit from hell which is so good. apparently meshugah used DFH on their new record.

from the ToonTrack website, some more info...
Drumkit From Hell aka DFH® was originally created to address Toontrack® Music´s own needs for better and heavier drums in musicproduction. As a result the Toontrack® productionteam decided to record a drumlibrary with the best musicians and producers available in Swedish heavy metal.

Little did they know what they had started. Drumkit From Hell was awarded 5 of 5 in Sound on Sound and an EQ Magazine Exceptional Quality award and launched Toontrack® Music and the DFH® brand in a major way into the sample business enabling the development of the Superior and EZdrummer® samplers. To celebrate and signify the importance of Drumkit From Hell Toontrack® has decided to re-release it as an EZX® expansion pack for EZdrummer®.
The DFH® EZX® contains the essence of what Toontrack® is originally all about. The commitment to excellence through collaboration with the best players and producers aimed at helping you to make better, more inspired music. This version of DFH® includes both the original DFH® release and the Add-On pack that was released subsequently. The sounds for DFH® were played, recorded and produced at Dug Out studios by Tomas Haake, Daniel Bergstrand, Mattias Eklund and Fredrik Thordendal. All sounds have been re-mixed at Toontrack® Studios by Mattias Eklund and we´ve added custom MIDI files from the diabolically gifted musician and guitar player of Meshuggah, Fredrik Thordendal plus MIDI played by Tomas Haake of Meshuggah, Owe Lingvall of Nocturnal Rites, Mattias Grahn of Naglfar and Efraim Juntunen of Persuader. Metal at its best. Rock on dude.
Mattias Eklund is a sick sick gifted guitarist.. I had no idea he was working for ToonTrack too!

Does it ever!!!!!!! lol - Check out the demo video on the website. It's a long vid, but shows off some amazing natural reverb from some of the best studios around the world... Including some little place the Beatles used.. lol
