David Nimrod
The instrument (which I've only seen a photo of) is black, with a black s/plate, unlined rosewood 'board... Any info would be great! Thanks in advance... David ~ Edited January 24, 2013 by David Nimrod
wateroftyne
It's Fender so never say never, but... I seriously doubt it. Quick way to check - are the side dots on the note / fretline or inbetween? If it's the latter you know it's definitely a replacement board. wateroftyne
...come to think of it, is the board bound?
AndyTravis
I put a new nut on a 73/74 which had an Ebony unmarked board a couple of years ago. It'd had the rosewood board removed and a new board fitted, then re-bound. It was a typical 'improved' bass probably modded in the 80's, EMG's, BAII, brass nut etc. It was a bit of a pig to be fair, looked cool, but was dead as a door nail and the customer didn't want the old strings changing nor the super high action lowering. I bet if I'd been allowed to improve its playability, it could have been a decent player. There weren't factory fretless Jazz basses at that time that I know of. David Nimrod
Hmmm... this one has a Badass bridge & chrome knobs... I'd post a photo or two, but I can't figure out how to
AndyTravis
The one I worked on was sunburst, very heavily worn, through to a white primer/sealer coat. Looked great, but like I said, I never really got to play it as I would have liked, I'm sure people regularly duffed them up in the 80's because they wanted a wal or an alembic but couldn't get their hands on one. David Nimrod
Apologies, now sorted!
AndyTravis
Looks similar to the one I worked on, in terms of a newer fingerboard on an older bass. I'd hate to say if the body/neck are of the same age, or wether or not the bass is a refin without taking it apart. It's not investment grade stuff, but may be a great player. Emanew
The only fretless, Fender did in the 70's, is a Precision Bass. In 1970, a rosewood or Maple fingerboard PB was introduced. Never a official fretless Jazz Bass was produced in this decade. Surprising but true. Check in "The Fender Bass : an illustrated history" by Tony Bacon. http://www.halleonard.com/product/viewproduct.do?itemid=330755&subsiteid=66& Edited January 28, 2013 by Emanew
mikeswals
Fender never went into fretless production with Jazz Basses. Only two protoypes built in 1970, no others. Like Emanew posted, only fretless Precisions.
