Sean
Money no object. Uncompromised tone is everything. Weight is not an issue. Size is not an issue. Cab size/weight not an issue. Price of spares not an issue. Maintenance not an issue. Now that I've hacked out a lot of subjectivity... What is the best bass amp ever made? gjones
It's all in the fingers maaan. Although I did try an Ampeg all tube SVT head in the studio a few weeks ago and it did sound pretty ace.
Bassman Steve
Not a big surprise but ........................ Mesa Boogie Bass 400 or 400+. They really are capable of any sound at all. Of course I've not tried every single amp there is, so I can only say it based on my experience.
jackers
I would say either: Ampeg SVT and Sealed 8x10, Aguilar DB750 and 2 DB410s, Mesa 400+ and Mesa 410s/412s
4-string-thing
Whichever one suits you best. In my case it's an Acoustic 220 with a 402 and 404 cab.

paul_5
Dunno really. If you've got a good active EQ on your bass, and an efficient cab then you just need a box with a 'make it louder' knob. Why does nobody make one of these? Money no object - I'd probably have one custom made. (I do like Ampegs amps though - not so much love for the cabs). Something that converts the signal to line level and then into a power amp to hoof it out of the speaker would be ideal...

chrismuzz
From comments I've heard and read by the few who've owned one, it seems that the Markbass TTE heads are a good contender for the 'best' out there, if you want a massive clean all valve sound. They're supposed to be comparable to the Mesa 400 but in a ridiculously lightweight package. They look sexy too
Mr. Foxen
yes, but I still want only one control knob on my amp. Dual concentric pot at a push...
Plenty of preamps with one knob about. More commonly two though, in and out, or being stereo. Its the other knobs that come on things that make them marked for 'bass guitar', just need to look at plain preamps if you want simple.
