thebrig Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 This great little number is now in our set, I have no problems playing it, but any ideas on how to achieve the sound? I play a Fender American Standard Precision bass through a Genz Benz Streamliner 9.0 and Barefaced Super Twelve. Quote
pobrien_ie Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 I think Leon Wilkeson mainly used a pick on Jazzes and Thunderbirds. Could be wong though. A cool player though and played some great lines. Quote
warwickhunt Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 IIRC he played big old Peavey amplification and a few different basses... unless you are a tribute just whack up the bass, enjoy the vibe and do your 'thang'! Quote
wateroftyne Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Apparently... A single coil Precision, Thunderbird or a Ric, plugged into a 150w Kustom Kasino through a 2x15. Turned up VERY loud, I imagine... Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Leon Wilkeson didn't play bass on 'Pronounced...' - he left before recording and re-joined stright after. One of the guitarists covered the bass parts for the album. What help that is to the OP I have no idea. That whole album has a fantastic bass tone. I always assumed it was a Gibson, not sure where I got that idea though. Quote
bassmachine2112 Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 It might have been Ed King on bass but what was played is another story. I,ve played it in the past on Ricky,t-bird,musicman and a P doesn,t really matter just get the vibe. Quote
This. Skynyrd aren't really a band I've ever focused on trying to emulate the bass sound too much. I think it's just a good rock sound with a great groove. Plus if you're doing the whole 2 to 3 guitar thing the challenge will just be to get a nice sound that can be heard in the mix. It's also very likely that Ed King was playing bass on the recorded version. Quote
