danthevan
I'd go for a compromise of doing all of them. All of them would fit in at the right gig
Jacqueslemac
A couple of years ago we were on the search for a singer. One duly turned up, but it very soon became apparent that he thought he'd recruited us as his backing band, rather than him joining our band. We parted company very soon after we realised his delusion!
Bassman Steve
He shouldn't have lasted beyond his third choice. :-)

Dr.Dave
Having read the set list I prefer the singer's choices. And that alters my previous comments not one jot. It's your band , he chose to join and my musical tastes don't matter.
shizznit
There is always a margin for compromise and sacrifice with each member of the band when it comes to song selection or music style, but above all you have to show enthusiasm for the band that you are performing with. In other words, there needs to be a consensus of opinion when it comes to putting a set list together that keeps everyone happy and above all gets the best performance from you. Yes, one or two songs might not turn your crank personally, but you have to remain mature about these things and get through it...it's not the end of the world. I I would take encouragement from a new band member that is showing enthusiasm to freshen things up and make their mark on the band, but if the changes are not agreeable or that person is showing no willingness to perform your back catalogue then maybe that person is not right for the job. Big_Stu
Is it at all relevant why the last singer was sacked?? and why it took a few months to get a replacement, lack of available applicants in your area or lack of suitability? skankdelvar
As an old Bob with very fond memories of the songs the singer suggested, I'd have to say terminate him with savage speed and sprinkle quicklime over the body. To me his list just screams 'old mens hobby band'. OK, on the night maybe one might pull 2 or 3 out as LCD crowd pleasers, but that list (as an entirety and as the foundation of a set) would have been stale 20 years ago. Lozz196
I prefer your set to his, but looking at your set makes me wonder why, when his is so far removed, did he ever bother to audition for your band in the first place.

And no backlash from me re.Mustang Sally. We play it because we like to , not because it's what anyone else wants. We just play it like it wipes its arse on its own underpants. LukeFRC
in the fella's defence... I'm no singer but I can imagine if I was ok but not very good I would be able to sing his choices whereas the ones he doens't want to sing would be harder to sing well.... he may just be a bit crap at the singing

[/quote] We end it by turning into 'Shout' too - by which time I'm usually in the audience dancing around half cut with the drummers - his son gets up on the drums - and the stage is covered in punters - the curvy and hopefully loose kind - doing backing vocals.
