Paul S Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 There is of course a website devoted to them: http://www.shergold.co.uk/ And a discussion forum: http://www.shergold.co.uk/forum/index.php More than you'll ever need to know on that forum. Includes a chap that used to make them! Basically hand made in England, nice quality machines. Quote

ash Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 (edited) You could get a Hayman 40/40 basically a Marathon with two split Precision pickups - they are becoming quite rare though so be prepared to pay £400+++ Like the Shergolds they have great necks - Shergolds were initially made up from old Hayman stock by the way. ash Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 (edited) Its a 40/40 in the picture - Modulators had interchangeable control modules and a slightly different shaped body. This is a Modulator Edited January 28, 2013 by ash Quote

It sounds like this: Fretless Marathon, bridge pickup. It looks like this: Not much resale value though, too heavily modified.
Yeah, it's got some cracking mainly in the sections adjacent to either side of the bridge - the photo doesn't really show this. The slab side nearest the bridge has a few chunks of the finish missing, a combination of wear and the cracking problem.
Could be Jaco himself!
Not a bad sound from a bass that even by the standards of the day was hardly high end. It was money very well spent at the time. Quote
