Bigjas Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I've just had my 1974 Hiwatt valve PA head serviced at Sound Superior in Lee on Solent, Hampshire. Really good service and did a great job on the amp which had not been used for 15+ years. http://soundsuperior.co.uk/ Jas Quote
MB1 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 (edited) Valve amp Specialist; Preston, Lancs.(previously posted by Big Stu!) Just had my Hiwatt 200 in to an Amp Tech that I had recommended by a local music shop. It had a constant loud background hum that I had been told online could be down to an imminent cap failure or power tube problems. I left it with the new (to me) tech who looked over it very quickly, checked it couldn't be my beloved GEC KT88s, not the caps & eventually tracked it down to a bad ground. What I was dreading could have been a slightly expensive cap job, or a disastrous re-valve was fixed & covered by his standard fee for an investigation. I'm sure there are some who would have said they did more, replaced unnnecessary part etc & charged accordingly. Very courteous, very prompt, knowledgable (builds his own amps too) and for me one reassurance was seeing the use of cabs & guitars to check with too & not just a multi-meter. He's also very accesible with a nearby motorway link within 5 mins of his premises. No hesitation in recommending DPE Services in Preston Lancashire. Tel 01772 715097. Email MB1. Just spoke to David about an Ashdown Cab mystery? and hes offered to help find the illusive intermittent problem! cant say fairer than that for a phone call...Jolly decent Chap! garythebass Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Just had an RCF Art12A looked at by these guys: Essex Amp Repairs & Guitar Services - 01376 502160 http://www.essexamprepairs.co.uk/ Couple of minutes off the A12 at Witham, Essex. Lots of testing, re-soldering and bench-testing later I got the active speaker back working fine. Charged just an hour's labour. Nice friendly guys, very reasonable hourly rate. Quote
D.I. Joe Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 I'd recommend Russ Fletcher to anyone in Cornwall http://www.russtrading.co.uk/ He's based in Barripper, near Camborne. Just serviced my Ashdown ABM 500 (bought secondhand on BC) and for a £40 service (inc. PAT test) plus a new preamp valve it sounds good as new! Great bloke as well - very knowledgable and friendly, not an arrogant patronising eejit like another local amp tec... Oh, and his number is Freephone! Quote

redbandit599 Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Another +1 for Essex Amp Repairs in Witham. They recently replaced a faulty power transformer (think that's what it was called anyway) in my EBS HD350. They had to get the part from EBS in Sweden as there wasn't an exact match available from usual sources. Safety tested and certified as standard. Two very professional and friendly guys, well set up and obviously busy full time operation. Quote
TurnItUp Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Recommended tech in Nottingham - Dave Ball - very fast and reasonably priced. Good with valve amps but can repair pretty much anything. 0115 911 3964 Quote
GrahamT Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 If you are based in or around Taunton, Tiverton, even Exeter area (South Somerset, North/Mid Devon), try calling Pete Searle - he is an electronics wizz who works from his home in Dunkeswell, near Honiton. He does work for Mansons of Exeter (excellent music shop). I have gone to him for repairs on amps and cabs and been very pleased with the service. He is a late sleeper so best to call him after 11.00am 01404892908 Quote
Bassdriver Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013
-------------------------------------------------- Anyone else in the Carlisle / North Cumbria area should definitely visit Dave at DEV Engineering. --------------------------------------------------
What a useful thread :-) Has anyone come across Dave England lately;? The contact form on his website doesn't seem to work. Nor does an email address I found for him, or the phone number. I live 10 mins drive from his last known address and need an amp looked at but it seems he's nowhere to be found. Quote

Kiwi Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Yeah thanks Mark, I've spoken to him in the past on another topic and he seems OK. His place was walking distance up until last month. But since the shift, it's an hour away on public transport. If there are no alternatives, I'll give him a call. Quote
