discreet
I reckon my bass playing has improved more by playing in bands than it ever would have if I only played with backing tracks...
This. It's the quickest way to improve, especially if you're playing with sympathetic people who are above your own skill level. Nothing brings you up to scratch better than this. Les
Hi all, I thought I'd revisit this and finish off with the happy ending This is our new guy Mick on his first gig with my bar room brawl band. As an interesting aside, with the exception of me, everyone in the bands first instrument is drums . So apologies to those of you seeking drummers, I'm afraid I seem to have them all. Hope everyone else who was suffering in this thread got their happy ending too. Guest bassman7755
Not at all off topic. You'll only get better by playing with other musicians.
Well amongst the bassists and guitarists that I know I see a much higher correlation between how much people practice and how good they rather than how much band work they do. Sure there is an initial steep learning curve when first playing in bands but once your past that I personally don't think it does anything magical to keep you improving.
