Sean
I've tried D class amps, even ones with valve preamps and they just don't give me the heft I want. When I moved from a GK 700RB-II to a Markbass LMK I was a bit lost, there was something lacking and I didn't enjoy gigging as much. Then I had the chanc to play through a 400+ and I realised it was the Markbass head that was letting me down. I traded my LMK in against a Mesa Carbine M6 which has been awesome in every way but is now for sale as I'm about to tick another thing off the bucket list and am going all the way to a 400+. I always find D Class lacking a certain something when compared to an all valve head or MOSFET head. I don't understand it but to me D class amps are like MP3s - a fantastic idea in concept, infinitely practical and able to sayisfy >95% of users but for some folk only vinyl will do.
