RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
Well , sort of. I saw a you tube clip of his new band, and I'm not sure what to make of it really. (Sorry, dont know how to upload yt vids) As my friend says' sounds like Lemmy doing Megadeth.' Maybe 2 guitards are needed. Can't see this band going for very long.Maybe i'm wrong. lettsguitars
Hmm. Glad that Jason is still at it. I thought Metallica had put him off music for good. This kind of metal is getting a bit tired now isn't it? Reminds me of Slayer somehow. I'm guessing he wont be getting Rick Rubin in to mix any of his stuff! http://youtu.be/4kRWwxCPyjw

BassTractor
Got excited by this thread, but was disappointed by the music. Sadly, this is just strolling. What's so cool about minor thirds up and minor thirds down? Couldn't make it through the whole song even, which is rare for me. I hope the other stuff has more bite to it. best, bert
Chris2112
Great to hear Jason making music. It's a good song, typical Newsted driving beat, good riffs. Refreshingly honest and lacking in pretensions. I just wish the production was a little more 'heavy'. There is a monster of a groove at 02:10. It's been a while since I listened to metal and thought 'f*** yeah', but there we go.
paul_5
They're not the prettiest band I've seen. It's very 'early Metallica' too...
the_skezz
I'm the only one who liked it then? Nothing special, but enjoyable enough IMO. Might sound like any other given 80s thrash song but since I love that era of metal I'm not complaining. EDIT: Chris summed it up better than I could. shizznit
Well, it's better than Echobrain, but still not fussed.

Roland Rock
Well, the Newstead album probably won't make the 100 most influential anytime soon, but it's good honest thrash. Obviously filmed last movember.
0175westwood29
not a massive fan tbh! seems a bit light, i think it does need a second guitar but a bit more bass in the guitar might sort that. andy

thodrik
Its alright. Its good to see Mr Newstead back. I've never been a fan of the 'riff really fast on open E/Eflat minor' thrash, but for what it is I don't mind it.
paulpirie8
I quite like it too. Never rated Newsted as a vocalist and still don't after that but he was always my favourite Metallica bassist.
They're not the prettiest band I've seen. It's very 'early Metallica' too...
+1. Reminds me of "Whiplash" slightly. The middle section was pretty groovy too, i thought. Paul
Conan
It is a bit derivative... especially the vocals. Nice to hear the bass played in "normal" registers though - no detuning or five/six string basses. That has become (IMO) so dull in metal in the last few years. I quite liked it!
There was a period where it seemed like every bass was being detuned to stupid new lows in metal. Meaning that records sounded terrible, even on a good hi-fi capable of reproducing some of the bass sound. I have always preferred guitars tuned to E or Eflat for metal tunes. They sound as tight as feck then.
jackers
for what it is, I quite liked it. The lyrics aren't going to win any awards, that's for sure I do agree that it sounds too thin with only one guitar (the guitar solo part being the exception, cos there were two guitar tracks for that) the groove riff at 2:10 is really nice though Edited January 30, 2013 by jackers

Not like Metallica are doing it any more, so guess there is an opening.

Gust0o
Is claiming that metal is derivative now also derivative? It seems that even the criticisms are mere shadows of past glories
