BetaFunk Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013
Even Herb Albert climbed aboard, sold out and went smooth in a Mexican way.................. Louis Johnson saves the day, or at least stopping it from making number one in the Tower Ballroom Blackpool. He was always firmly in the pop camp as either composer or producer before his hits with the Tijuana Brass of which none were Hispanic! Quote

He liked Mariachi, and his band were mainly LA studio players and Jazzers [as you proberly know] Herb had a great ear for music and produced a lot of stuff over the years, and more than likely TB paved the way for a number of Latin style chart pop at that time. Great head for business as well. Not British, but great [brilliant] all the same. Garry Edited February 4, 2013 by lowdown Quote
Leonard Smalls Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 How's about some mid-90s German fusion? And if you can find a copy, try Alphonse Mouzon's "Mind Transplant" with Tommy Bolin on guitar... Quote

Garry
I have a cd of demos of songs composed by Sharon Sheeley (Eddie Cochran's girlfriend) cut on the U.S. West Coast in the early 60s and Herb sings on some tracks and his voice sounds nothing like it did later on. Interesting and very clever bloke. Quote

leschirons Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Curtis Mayfield is worth a listen and so is some of Isaac Hayes' stuff. Both great songwriters & performers. For some early fusion, check out the Japanese band Caseopia, their first album even had the Brecker brothers on it and they later hooked up with Lee Ritnour (and possibly Harvey Mason) for a couple of collaborations. Great stuff but maybe slightly off the mark for this post. Quote
