Salt on your Bass?
Wow! I've been using this site a lot recently and finally getting to the point of talking to some guys about some kind of project. Would I reply to this ad? Nope. Why not? Because he knows a zillion artists, and I only know about 1,500. I very much like his no nonsense "Music isnt for a good time" approach though, together with meeting the right people and he'll be a success. I think theres better ways to entice people to respond to an ad and end up with what you're looking for. In summary, best of luck to the guy and it'd be interesting to be a fly on his PM box! LukeFRC
"but the style I'm looking for is indie rock or blues rock. This is a very broad spectrum.... and it's not going to work if everyone is pulling in different directions/genres" I have a feeling that this band would not be fun to be in. No fun, no social side creating a buzz or excitement about what you are doing, nope turn up and play your (well his) indie rock and be serious it's all about being "successful" whatever that means to a 42 year old guitarist who's " spent half my life getting my music to where it's at"

thepurpleblob
[s]In the nicest possible way (really!). You sound like an idiot. You probably aren't but you sound like it. All that stuff about mp3's and copyright..... good grief!! If you *are* an idiot... oh well, good luck I suppose.[/s] EDIT Ahh sh*t.... I should learn to read. This isn't somebody saying "what do you think of my ad" is it? JellyKnees
He sounds a bit intense. Music making should be FUN (even if you are serious/trying to make a living out of it), otherwise what's the point?

Low End Bee
I've definitely been in a band with his southern cousin. Similar preciousness about his 'work' and attitude to life. Played guitar like he had Walls pork sausages for fingers.
jackers
what a twunt surely having fun is one of the biggest parts of playing music. and his attitude to sharing his music is laughable. I would love to read all the replies he will (not) get.

4 Strings
Tricky, I can't be taking myself as seriously as this and have been in a band with someone who does. It was unpleasant and he ended up getting through 5 bass players - I was no. 2 and by far the longest enduring - and various other musicians over a four year period before jacking it all in. He was pretty talented and the band sounded pretty good, but fun? No. Attractive for an audience? No, far too earnest. He wants some serious work rather than just a musical jolly, which is fair enough, I feel the same, but if it isn't enjoyable it's lost its way, hasn't it? bremen
On the other hand, he's maybe just not very good at expressing himself in text and is so afraid of timewasters he's overdoing the seriousness.

KevB
The ad in the OP seems a bit bipolar and he wrote it on one of his off days. If I arranged a meeting it would be in a very public place. And I'd know where all the exits were in advance.
