bakerster135
Hi All! I'm currently stuck in a bit of a rut with the technical stuff that I'm practicing along to, things like Mars Volta, Jamiroquai, Rush etc that I know too well and am not really benefitting from! Wondered if anyone had examples of any great new bands or even songs with interesting, technical technical bass-lines that I might not have heard? Any contributions will be much appreciated! :-) Thanks, Al

Coilte
Most "Steely Dan" songs should fit the bill. Here is one to start you off : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Laxi4GTOTq0

Find a song you like and figure it out Edited February 1, 2013 by Lowender

And the guy covering it does an excellent job , but is it really technically demanding or just a bunch of fast licks stuck together that would be really hard to memorize? That's the thing with a lot of technical metal. It needs more "songs." Edited February 1, 2013 by Lowender

I think our own Steve (stickman) Woodcock's band Linear Sphere are a great example of how to combine the technical aspects of the genre with really good songwriting. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmIim7rJP3w
