[/quote] But remember that "balanced tension" doesn't necessarily mean balanced compliance which is what really matters from a feel PoV. Especially on a Fender-style bass where the string break angle over the nut is very different for the E, A and D/G strings which can result in a different change in compliance for each string. It's all a compromise between feel and relative output levels anyway, and what suits one player (or instrument for that matter) might not suit another.
