danweb22 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Hi all, Has anyone heard anything more on these as regards to release date? They were debuted at NAMM 2012 (or Musikmesse, I can't recall) and haven't heard a thing since! Spoke to Westside distribution here who import Mesa gear and they weren't sure. It's been over a year! Most recent I could find was on the No Treble website about June last year. They look rather good Quote
thodrik Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I think there was a thread about this a while ago. The range of comments included: 'probably will be overpriced' 'probably not as good as a 400+' 'a bit uglier than I expected actually' 'they are going to awesome' 'I'm totally getting one' 'Why don't they just make a 600 watt Walkabout?' 'When are they going to be released?' 'I wonder what they would sound like when paired with a Barefaced?' 'Don't bother, get a Matamp' Quote
Bassman Steve Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 I recently emailed Boogie to ask about my 2x18 cab and the response mentioned the new valve heads and told me to watch out for a release within the next 6 months. That was about 3 weeks or so ago. Quote

marcblum Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 got one of the very first Strategy heads in Germany. very very impressive indeed. both sound- and pricewise. Quote
wateroftyne Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Start the ball rolling now re: remortgaging your home, and it'll be on the shelves by the time the funds come through. Quote
deepbass5 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 There was one at the bass show last week, looked very nice, but cant understand how a £2000 amp has an optional £100 footswitch. If I had a spare £2k kicking arround i would get one. Quote
obbm Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I have a Prodigy but have yet to gig it. Am taking it over to Bass Gear this week to try with different cabs. Very nicely engineered. Quote
obbm Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014
Dave, Is it not working with your CN212?
works fine Chris. Phil and Vic want to try it and it'll give me chance to give it a blast. Quote

deepbass5 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 obbm - can i come at listen I was thinking this would be nice on a double Berg Quote
No lust in Jazz Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I had a Prodigy, after two gigs and three rehearsals the honeymoon period was short lived. I was disappointed with it and for the thick end of £2000, it went back. My walkabout is a superb piece of gear and on this basis I bought one. However, In my experience.. Tonally it was one dimensional and lacked the authority that I'd expected. I didn't like the EQ. (I felt) Transporting it required the care and attention befitting 'Hannibal Lecter' I like Boogie gear, but not this and I've since moved on. Noting the increased power and graphic EQ I suspect the Strategy is a better head. Quote
molan Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Was really looking forward to trying a Prodigy recently but the fuse went pop after about 10 minutes of warming up and we couldn't get it to come back to life Quote
fretmeister Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 So too expensive and goes pop? Great. $1799 USA street price and £2000 UK is taking the piss. Shame really. The demos sounded great and I would have been very tempted at £1500 Quote
marcblum Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 (edited) still no Mesa Boogie Bass Strategy users in the UK? My drummer says: "It's got the WALL FACTOR of the Genz Benz GBE 1200 and the tonal qualities of the Mesa 400+" Edited May 26, 2014 by marcblum Quote

My drummer says: "It's got the WALL FACTOR"
Is that as in, it makes you feel like you've run into a wall? Maybe smashed your nose and your ears are bleeding? I can see how that might appeal to a drummer Quote

fretmeister Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Have any UK shops actually got any in stock? Googling doesn't seem to show any - Thomann is the nearest!! I'm expecting a bit of a tax rebate so I'm half-way tempted, but I want to try one before I spend that sort of money. Quote
Platypus Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) Westside Distribution in Denmark St are a Mesa agent in UK. It was them that had the heads on display at the London Bass show a few months back. Last time I was in their shop they had either a Strategy or Prodigy available for demo, also had quite a few Mesa cabs in stock. http://www.westsidedistribution.com/brands/mesa-boogie/ Edited July 16, 2014 by Platypus Quote
Musicman20 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 If you want to properly try it, just use Thomann's returm service if you don't like it. Quote
wateroftyne Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Harrods could probably source you one. haw haw. Quote
obbm Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Finally got to use my Prodigy depping as house bass at local Jam last week and again last night. Great tone with the Berg CN212. Several comments about tonal quality, clarity and the fact that the bass could be heard cutting through regardless of who was drumming. Despite initial concerns after blowing a fuse early in its life and the odd horror story on TB, it's been very reliable and a doddle to use. Quote
