Bloodaxe Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I'm a fan (& so is the Rt. Hon. Member for Greenwich), have been for ages. Had a chat with him at the GBBF a few years back - really nice bloke, smokes Camels & drinks Proper Beer. That said, his stuff's a bit of an acquired taste & can polarise opinion. If you haven't found it already, hunt down "32-20 Blues" on YouTube. Terrible, terrible jumper... but the playing... If you don't have any of the albums, get your hands on 8th Street Nights for starters. P. Quote
KingBollock Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I have to say, I struggled with the intro to the first song but really enjoyed the bass once he started singing. That second video, though, is bloomin' lovely. Quote
kyboo Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 (edited) I remember when I stumbled upon this band about 10 years ago and was completely blown away by the song: https://www.youtube....h?v=I4GL6INd7mY Edited February 3, 2013 by kyboo Quote
spike Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Loved the second clip, first one not so much Quote
Coilte Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Nice playing on both clips, and he does not feel the need for a five string to do it. Quote
Bloodaxe Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Something a bit 'straighter'... Quote
BetaFunk Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I had the pleasure of seeing Colin Hodgkinson play his trusty 1962 Precision in Peterborough pubs on numerous occasions in the 70s. Great player!!! Quote
Count Bassy Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 There's a lot of solo bass playing that does nothing for me. These are NOT they. I love this stuff, especially the sing part of the San Francisco one. Sadly way beyond my abilities. Quote
KevB Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I wasn't aware how good a player Colin was until I saw him do San Fran Bay Blues as a solo piece at an Alexis Korner memorial concert in Buxton years ago. I'd seen him with Whitesnake but that was all. Quality stuff. Quote
