Excalibr Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Hi all, I currently have a Fender Rumble 15 practice amp that I tool around on in my bedroom and when I practice with my mates. Now, I know next to nothing about amps (is there a "what you need to know about amps" thread anywhere?) but I think I'll probably need to upgrade as time goes by, especially as we might start doing some small gigs here and there. Any suggestions where I can go amp-wise next? Thanks Sam Quote
xgsjx Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 First Q, what's your budget? You'll get an amp at any budget that'll do what you're looking for just now, including small gigs. The "For Sale" section on here is a good place to buy. Get to a shop that has a good selection & try some out to see what you like the sound of. Quote

Lozz196 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 (edited) Another thing to think of is, what other bassists sound do you like, then see if their gear is within budget. By this I don`t necessarily mean famous, although not a bad idea, but local bands you`ve seen, and whose bassist you`ve thought had a great sound. That should give an approximate idea, then start searches on here for opinions/reviews/Items for sale. Edited February 3, 2013 by Lozz196 Quote
Musky Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I think the nearest we had to an amp FAQ was the buyers guide on the now defunct basschat wiki. http://web.archive.org/web/20110907235419/http://wiki.basschat.co.uk/info:buying:choosing_your_first_amp A bit of info like your budget and whether transporting your kit is an issue will likely bring up some concrete suggestions for you.
