DarkHeart Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 So i bought a maple neck from Hong Kong before xmas for what was to be a natural finished precision, anyway at the weekend i noticed tommorichards had a cheap Stingray body for sale that A: had the same neck pocket dimensions as my neck and B: wouldnt sound like my other precision and whats more he wanted a speaker i was selling so the deal was done. it arrived today at 1.30pm by 3.30pm it was wired up, strung, plugged in and playing and sounding very nice on a set of flats, its got a remarkably low action considering it was a brand new undrilled neck. Im chuffed with how its turned out for such a small outlay this is definitely my `Budget` budget bass oh yeah i had a spare headstock logo so it would have been rude not to use it Quote
Donnyboy Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I want a Funder Jeffbass!! ( On a budget, of course). World domination next , surely! Quote
The Burpster Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Really impressed, although I think we should have a contest for the best name.... I'll start with 1. Pringray 2. Stincision. Quote
spellonyou Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Nice Precray! Please tell, what is the third knob for? Quote
DarkHeart Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 Its got two tone controls but dont ask me why Quote
DarkHeart Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 it now has 2 volume knobs ive wired both coils to different pots as it seems to make more sense than 2 tone controls one of which didnt influence the sound one jot! i know the coils are next to each other but at least the middle knob now has a job Quote
peponbass Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Wow great! If I were you, I'm adding a Hipshot "D-Tuner"!! Quote
DarkHeart Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 Just ordered a ceramic magnet pup to try Quote

Dr M Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013
it now has 2 volume knobs ive wired both coils to different pots as it seems to make more sense than 2 tone controls one of which didnt influence the sound one jot! i know the coils are next to each other but at least the middle knob now has a job
I've always thought an interesting option with a passive 3-control stingray-style bass would be to use the 3rd knob as a rotary switch. Series, parallel, single coil, maybe? Quote
OldG Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I'd be tempted to add P bass pickup too add to the hybrid theme - working on a jazz type control setup... Quote
DarkHeart Posted February 12, 2013 Author Posted February 12, 2013 I could go for the rotary switch that sounds like a plan if i could work out how to wire it and which one to get i have a jazz pup i could pop in the neck position as i have a spare but unfortunately i dont have the tools to either chop up the scratchplate cleanly enough or route out the pickup cavity and as its limited by budget constraints i cant justify sending it to a luthier to do the work for me Quote
RandomBass Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Oh that is very neat. I like your thinking there. Quote
