Riddler
Hi All, Apologies if this is the wrong part of the forum bit here goes. I saw a nice Fender MIM Jazz bass in a small guitar shop today but I can't work out how old it is so any help would be appreciated. Here’s a description: Olympic White body, looks aged Tortoise Shell scratch plate Noiseless pickups Standard bridge (i.e. not through body) Fender Deluxe electrics i.e. 4 knobs with plastic instructions template underneath, which is cracked and breaking up Rosewood 20 fret fingerboard with dot inlays Serial No on reverse of headstock: MZ7118219 Standard, unmarked tuners. i.e. not Hipshots, Schallers or any Fender logo. The serial number implies Mexican made in 2007 but the body looks older. so do you reckon is a hybrid? Cheers Graham
Grand Wazoo
As you can see on this link, your serial number place that bass between 2007-2008 http://www.fender.com/en-GB/support/articles/mexican-instruments-product-dating/
Riddler
Cheers for the link Thats what I thought, but the body looks older, and if it is actually a deluxe from 2007 wouldn't it have through body bridge?
clashcityrocker
The active deluxe jazz comes in vintage white (yellowy cream) if I remember correctly. That would explain the 4 knobs too. I have one, nice basses just give it a once over for the sometimes-dodgy quality control. Simon Edit -and mine doesn't have thru body stringing Edited February 8, 2013 by clashcityrocker
Riddler
Cheers Simon, it's up for £475 does that sound about right? Cheers Graham
clashcityrocker
It's a shop so will be more but that seems a tad high imo, think they are 690 new,I would offer them 400 and hope they come down abit. If that's the going rate I got a serious deal :-) check the knobs as one of the vol and the bass one on mine are really easy to turn,as in a mouse's cough would move it,worth checking. Here's mine
jezzaboy
Guitarguitar has a black one in stock s/h for £429. I would say that £475 was a tad expensive. gsgbass
I don't think the Mexican Fenders in 2007-2008 had any through the body. Not that many American Fenders either.
Riddler
Thanks for the info everyone. I think I was getting confused as I used to own a 98 US deluxe which had the through body, hipshots, 22 frets, smaller body etc. I hadn't realised the MIM's were so different. Thanks again G
