spongebob
Seeing some stuff recently about Jaco's 'Bass Of Doom' kind of got me thinking. I wonder how many BC'ers are similar in owning and playing a 'main' bass - becoming really 'at one' with their instrument, and almost 'signature' sound. One you play masses more than any others? Or do you just like to spread the love among your collection? I know quite a few 'name' players are fairly synonymous with their bass of choice, always seen with same instrument. Maybe it's something I kind of strive towards, just trying to nail a tone without constantly changing basses, and all amp settings to compensate! Leonard Smalls
I mainly play the Wal, but use the Sandberg and Parker with different tone settings for specific songs...
amnesia
I voted yes, but it depends on the situation. The Streamer Stage I I use exclusively for Black Road Home The Thunderbird I use for Paul Henshaw and the Scientific Simpletons My Streamer LX I use for home practice. The Crafter acoustic I use to collect dust.

[/quote] Pretty much this. Generally the Sandberg is my go-to bass as I find it to be versatile enough to work in near every situation. If I'm going full on growly rock tone though, I'll pull the Stingray out.

spike
I only have two basses, my 2005 fender Jazz which I play all the time and my 'spare', an Overwater Classic J which come out of it's case once every couple of months if it's lucky. mart
I've got half a dozen basses, but I mainly alternate between two of them. The rest are lovely, but more specialised: the acoustic for when I need that particular sound/vibe/look, the stick bass for when portability is crucial, the fretted bass for the occasional times when I'm sharing the set with my son (who isn't quite as comfortable on fretless as he could be, though he is surprisingly good for his 12 years), the cheap bass for when I don't trust the audience .... stingrayPete1977
I used to rotate them all but the 4 stringers are getting less of an outing in live situations other than the odd jam night partly to let the 4 bangers play on
Shambo
I only have one bass. I've tried buying others to usurp it but I always end up playing my jazz ,(with the same setting... in series pups with the tone rolled back a little). I'm a basstone monogamist. icastle
It really depends on what I'm doing at the time and which instrument is most appropriate to achieve that. I have a very 'it's just a tool' attitude to my basses.
chrismuzz
I used to have a main bass, but seeing as each of my 4 basses is in a different tuning it depends on what I'm doing or which band I'm playing with at the time.
Stockholm Syndrome
I sure do, it is in my avatar. I ordered it just for the reason of wanting a "main, do-it-all bass".
JTUK
I take both out 99% of the time.... and I start with a favoured bass, and my EQ works well on both so they are balanced in that regard. I might think one or the other bass works better at any choosen gig but my thinking is I'll start with the White RW bass
EssentialTension
I play what suits the band and its music. I'm not at all 'at one' with my instrument and don't have a 'signature' sound, although I usually manage to sound like me whether I want to or not. I'm not looking to 'nail a tone' and rarely play with the EQ; I'm much more likely to change where and how I hit the strings with my right hand. rOB
I have my main instrument (Schecter C4) and a back up/different sounding bass. To be honest I can count the times I've gigged the P bass on one hand.
Bassection
It used to be my Warwick Corvette $$, but since buying a 5 string Streamer $$ from our very own dudi8 that's been my main bass. I just don't seem to enjoy the tone or feel of my other basses as much since playing it.
MarkWJenkins
Voted yes, but in the same camp as a few others really. My P-bass gets used the most, but I do bring the 6 out now and again with the metal band. Depends what the songs need really, sometimes its nice to have the lower end (my 6 is tuned GBEADG) for when the guitards decide to go off on one!
