aende
not sure if this is the right bit of the forum, but here goes; Status pickups; are they any good? I am considered a soapbar swap and want to stay passive - Does anyone have any example of sounds or experience with the pickups as a retrofit? TheGreek
Why are you considering swapping them out???
aende
Swapping the crap 'noname' pickup that I have, for a Status pickup - just to clarify.

Captain Codpiece
i know the whole graphite neck thing, but as long as its a decent made bass they sould be fine
Kiwi
Why Status in particular and what is it that you are hoping they will deliver?

aende
The status pickups were £51 and the sound from status basses is pretty clear. So, I guess more clarity and £51 is not a bad price. **I was trying to stay with passive electronics....!

[/quote] I'd tend to agree with this - the pickups are an important component in a detailed mosaic - the graphite in a Status contributes very significantly to the perceived clarity of tone (the active electronics too, however, if I run my SII in passive, the core tone of the bass is retained). I'm sure that Status pickups are very high-quality, though if you're looking to achieve some kind of analogue to the 'Status sound', the pickups alone may not deliver
