Mykesbass
Wouldn't think of doing such a thing, but if I could play it, Tommy Cogbill's "Son of a Preacher Man"
thisnameistaken
I've never had any friends who were impressed by bass playing.
Chris2112
For sheer wow factor, Classical Thump is hard to beat. Because it looks fantastic and sounds amazing. I tend to find that even in the opening few bars, when you are hitting the open strings and hammering on the melody notes, even without double thumbing, makes most people get up and look. It has so much class, mainly because it's not just 'look at me' stuff, it's a beautiful tune.
Lord Sausage
Ok, you pick up a bass in front of a few friends, which song do you launch in to to really impress everyone? seashell
+1 for Good Times by Chic. Also the keyboard intro to Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds which my teacher showed me how to do in bass. Not that my friends want to listen either , but I strap them to a chair and play at them till they beg for mercy

Lovely story (he was obviously moved when recounting the tale), humour, nice little bit of playing. Thanks for that link.
JTUK
I don't play any songs... I just play a little trick or something that falls to hand easily...
Roland Rock
I can't remember the last time I've played solo to anyone. I'm not a flashy player at all, so would just play something recognisable, like Groove is in the Heart

tonyxtiger
Steptoe and son theme tune or the Gary Numan one from Alan partridge. Thats usually enough to stop any more requests. Edited February 17, 2013 by tonyxtiger
