Ashborygirl Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Ok, you pick up a bass in front of a few friends, which song do you launch in to to really impress everyone? Quote
Truckstop Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Pricetag - Jessie J seems to impress most people funnily enough. In front of other musicians though I like thumbing through Respect - Aretha Franklin because I know I can get the groove just right and it's a real infectious and recognisable line. Easy, too! John Cellario Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I'm stealing licks and riffs left right and centre from Scott Devine and Marlowes DK lessons on YouTube...there some really nice stuff on there. Quote

Hobbayne Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Nivram by The Shadows. A nice walking line by the late Jet Harris. Not the solo though, just the verse. Quote

funkgod Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 (edited) Always had a soft spot for this, and a surprising performance by Randy jackson on bass. But the drums by Rayford Griffin is the reason i got a kit,,,, i still cant play it ..... not even close! so now i just listen and say ..... wow. Enjoy..... Bassection Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Song may not be to your taste, but you have to admit it's a great bassline. Quote
Big_Stu Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Usually just pick one out that I know they'll recognise, depending on who it is; though in general I tend to shy away from such malarky because I tell them it's a group not a solo instrument. But usually "Town Called malice", or it's cousin "Lust For Life", possibly show them a bass' day-job with "Can't Turn You Loose" then someone avariably asks "What's the extra knob for over there?" (sometimes they mean me, sometimes the extra knob on the bass) so I turn it and do "Purple Haze". Quote
the_skezz Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Peaches by the Stranglers always gets approval. Used to throw the riff in at gigs while the guitarist was busy tuning up. Quote

bertbass Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 For some reason when I switch my amp on I play Black Dog, I don't know why. Then I'll play a Rainbow bass line the name of which totally escapes me but I'm sure that you'll all know it, it goes, dum dum dum dum etc., any suggestions? Quote

Hot Tub Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 There's several, but "New Born" by Muse is a favourite of mine. People who don't "know" music think it's amazing, but it's actually really easy! Quote
