My band is set for another reshuffle, and I'm doing my best to keep the noise down and have it a 3 piece.

I've written a few pieces now that would sound good with in a three piece. Aiming for a indie with a groove sort of thing.

Anyway I need to build up a palette of great artists that have written similar sort of tunes, there are one or two locals I've drawn influence from but aside from that I'm coming up short.

I am after writing pieces that that singer can sing aswell as play, with very little 'fancy' work as when we play live I want it to be as true as possible to any recording we'll do.

Can anyone help with examples of great 3 piece acts with great basslines/bassists???

You could try checking out morphine for a 3 piece with an unusual and effective bass style.

I'd say so. :) A two-string bass played slide with a bottleneck!

And the basslines don`t have to be over-complicated in a 3-piece, check out The Police - it`s what & when Sting plays, not how much.

Flip-side of the coin, Muse. Great basslines.

Now, technically they're not a 3-piece...BUT the fourth member only sings/tambourines/melodicas so I think I can get away with posting it:

fantastic bassline, the breakdown bit in the middle is outstanding.

The problem with the majority of good 3 piece bands is that after their 1st album, they end up an 8 piece but still advertise themselves as a 3 piece.

May I suggest some early Led Zep. OK they was a 4 piece, but that's ruled out by the singer not playing an instrument.

Opens a whole wealth of 4 piece bands that a 3 piece can play when you look at it from a "who plays what" perspective. :)

Meant to say, good choice of band! :D
