RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Sorry , but on the radio this evening , I heard 'Animal' , then 'Bad Medicine' . Aaargh,my ears!! Both cheesy, Coca Cola , safe music. Apologies to fans of both bands mentioned. I know that the musicianship,is fantastic and Leppard have fantastic (possibly over produced) harmonies. But, surely others here feel my pain? Quote
steve-soar Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 About as rock and roll as the Krankies. Quote
Commando Jack Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Def Leppard is more painful because everything sounds like its being chanted at a football match. Quote

Merton Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I like both That said Bon Jovi only did three good albums and Def Leppard's best output was in 1981 or 1996 depending on what mood I'm in. (Neither album is one of the famous ones) Quote
pobrien_ie Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 For me, both bands are bland, generic cheese-fests, but I'd have to say Bon Jovi edge it in the painful stakes as they seem to see themselves as more of a serious / credible band. Quote
WalMan Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Well I have to say I saw BJ @ MK Bowl with (I think Little Angels, Billy Idol & ?) and it was a bloody good gig & there are a number of DL songs that I really like as well. Heigh ho Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 I have to point out something; I saw Leppard supporting AC/DC on Highway to HellTour . They were good. Saw Bon Jovi headline Monsters of Rock '87? Terrible! But,,Metallica, wasp and Anthrax were on before them,. Also saw Leppard at Donington , their first gig since the drummer was rebuilt. Motörhead were best band that day imho. So, after all that , I still don't get it,) Quote
Merton Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 A Lep live gig these days is super slick, very well produced show with all the vocals and notes perfectly practiced to within an inch of their life. I did eel they have lost a bit of soul live, the best gig I saw them do (I have seen 7...) was Broxton Academy in 2003, they seem to have lost their sparkle since going back to arenas. Never seen Bon Jovi but I imagine it's a similar prospect. Neither band will ever write another inspiring song I imagine, and I find that hard to write as I grew up with Lep. Quote

Good, wholesome entertainment and not weird or creepy in the slightest. Quote
thisnameistaken Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 The main thing I remember about those two bands is the size of the stages in their videos. Can't really remember the music... Quote

thodrik Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Conceptually: I prefer Def Leppard. Musically: I prefer silence Quote

Grassie Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Def Leppard have had an episode of Classic Albums. Bon Jovi haven't.... Buy British everyone. Oh, and I've just joined a band where the drummer has one arm.... Quote

Lowender Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Not a fan of either but, as played out as it is , "Living on a Prayer is a great tune, but they didn't write it and it's questionable if the band even played it. And a "Love Bites" is a great song. Try singing that one and get back to me on how well you knock out that "cheesy" vocal. Edited February 19, 2013 by Lowender Quote

bartelby Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I saw Def Leppard on the Hysteria tour. I remember nothing about it apart from they had a lot of lasers in the lighting rig. Fortunately I've not seen Bon Jovi live... Quote
KevB Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) Seen both live and have a smattering of albums by both bands. Perhaps easy targets for the music purists but in the right environment a rollicking good rock'n'roll ride. Personally I've always preferred Bon Jovi, at least they are actually American whereas Leppard come across as wannabes. I notice thay are currently churning out Hysteria night after night in a residency in Vegas. Both bands way beyond their heydays but at least are still working and selling tickets. Can come up with a whole bunch of artists that I find more 'painful' to listen to than either of these bands, each to their own and all that. Edited February 19, 2013 by KevB Quote
The Dark Lord Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Hysteria is a good album though. Quote
