Ricksflynn
Good morning all! My names Rick and I'm from Brighouse in West Yorkshire. Having played bass for the majority of my teens and my early twenties I found myself having to sacrifice my collection of basses (mainly, an American Fender Jazz and Precision basses) and amps to supply our growing family with camping gear for the summer holidays away. Having met up with the lads I used to play in the band with at a recent gig, it has rekindled my want and need to play bass again. Now this means rebuilding everything from scratch but something I am looking forward to it. Hope I can pick up some new tips on here. Leen2112
Welcome Rick, Yours Is a tale that Is told often on these pages so your in good company. My Tip is beware of the 'for sale pages' and impending 'GAS' Nuff said. Cheers Leen.
Ricksflynn
Thanks Leen, Already lined up an Ampeg Mirco-CL stack, which is 100w and has a 2 x 10" cab. I think this will do me for my home practicing and have enough oomph to play with the lads when ever we jam. Been looking at a few basses over the last week. Having to wait until pay day (next Thursday) is already killing me! Haha! I have managed to acquire a Encore bass to tide me over but it's just not the same. BassTractor
Hey Rick, Welcome into the fold! What a blissful situation I gather you're in right now - supposedly being delighted about the prospect of using the newly acquired gear. Do you know what's it gonna be after payday? Not a new Fodera, I imagine, but a nice Squier J or P, maybe? Anyway, enjoy the fora, the info, the banter, the GAS, the gear and the company. best, bert
Ricksflynn
Hi Bert and thanks for the welcome. Still in a thought process over what to purchase. I know if I get something cheap I won't be happy with it and will want something better, been looking at a few squire Jazz' but not come to any decisions. Hopefully go around a few shops over the weekend
BassTractor
I know if I get something cheap I won't be happy with it and will want something better, been looking at a few squire Jazz' but not come to any decisions. Hopefully go around a few shops over the weekend
Dunno about that. Depends on your reference frame of course, but from BC I've learnt that a lot of cheap basses are just very good basses, like Yamahas (even the RBX-170), Ibanezes (reportedly except the very cheapest), Squiers (especially the Classic Vibes, the slightly more expensive signature models, and also the Vintage Modifieds). After having read a lot here, I went for a Classic Vibe 60s Jazz, and a real bassist who played it was flabbergasted to the degree that he was more impressed with it than with a Bongo at n times the price. Anyway, happy hunting. best, bert
