wateroftyne Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Hi all I've been having a clear out, and I've found a stash of Bassist mags from the mid-to-late 90s. It's been a hoot reading through them - one review describes a fairly monstrous GK head as 'small' - presumably because it's only 2U high. Anyway.. each issue usually contained a 'My bass rig is...' column, in which a reader discusses their gear. For some reason, one particular issue - June '97 - doesn't mention the poor subject's name anywhere in the feature. Even the contents page refers to him as 'A Bassist reader'. I'm wondering whether they literally couldn't find his name and had to go to press without it. Here's his pic. Is this you? Do you know him? Let's give a bass brother the recognition he's deserved for the last 15 years.. we can do this! Edited August 19, 2013 by wateroftyne Quote
Myke Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Looks like his jeans were too big, or was the style in the 90s? I don't know I was 3 when this was taken.. Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I like his tobacco burst bass, waistcoat and glasses! Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I do actually like that bass what is it? Quote
stingrayPete1977 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 It's not a bass collection is it? No fret makers and something on the truss cover, just my luck to fall for one after seeking my last one! Quote
risingson Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Wouldn't be the 90's if it weren't for scooped graphic EQs on yer Trace Elliot! Quote
gjones Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Didn't he used to play with Creme Brulee? Edited August 2, 2017 by gjones Quote
peteb Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Seems to have got his wardrobe and general sartorial elegance from Jeff Berlin! Quote
KingBollock Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 It's the "Do I really have to stand like this?" face that I find priceless. Quote
Guest MoJo Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Yep....Bass Collection. Was Basschat around in '97? I've been a BC'er since it stopped being Bassworld. Don't think it's been around that long Edited February 20, 2013 by MoJo Quote
wateroftyne Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 According to the article, it's a Bass Collection SB315. And no, it's it's not me. Quote

mep Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Christ, I remember that issue & especially that article. Quite a Trace rig, but over the top for most gigs. We must find this guy. Thanks for posting. It's not me. Quote
TimR Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Was 1997 15 years ago? I can't remember what I was doing in 1997! I don't think that's me although I did have a pair of baggy jeans with turnups but that was in 1987. Quote
I've been feeling like I'm getting old recently anyway (I'm nearing 30 and starting to remember things that I was doing 20 years ago), things like this isn't helping!!! (yes...it was the style...) Quote
lurksalot Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013
I like his tobacco burst bass, waistcoat and glasses! MB1 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 MB1. This is somebody off here I remember this from a bass collection ad? ...You sure it's not Wateroftyne? Quote
icastle Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Certainly not me. I can give you one clue though. If you look at the top of his head you can see that his conservatory electrics are missing an earth connection... Quote
bluesparky Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 I remember that issue as I had the 4-string version of that bass and had just bought an SMX combo at the time. If I remember correctly the caption for the photo was "one man and his bass step out" however I don't know who it is. I had every one of the magazines but gave them away as they were just gathering dust. Quote
Stacker Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Such sartorial elegance: no belt, turn-ups on the troos and that shocking waist-coat! What's the biggie power-amp? Quote
