discreet Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013
Right. So it's a crap video, then, and he's an arsehole.
D'oh! I was hoping for at least another three pages of nonsense before we came to that conclusion. Quote
hamfist Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013
Apparently the P Bass is a 2010 Am. St. with a Seymour Duncan SB3 pickup , so on paper at least there is no reason why it should sound anything less than very meaty . Must be how it was recorded / eq'd .
Ah, the SB3 does tend to be rather gentle in the mids for a P pickup (it's that modern big bottom end and sizzly high it's going for I think). It was the authority of the P's mids I was missing in the vid. All makes sense now. Quote
I have no experience of the SBP-3 personally, and I know Seymour Duncan claim a "tremendous mid-range presence". However the common "internet wisdom", on TB for example, generally seems to agree that it is actually a bit mid-scooped compared to more traditional P pickup designs. (cue the disparaging comments about TB......) Quote
Musicman20 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 That P bass does sound awful! The Jazz/Ray/Bongo sound lovely. Cool vid. Quote
chrismuzz Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 But which is best for metal?? Nah, great video! My favourite was actually the Bongo. Surprisingly hated the Stingray sound! Quote
BassTractor Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 In this vid, only thing I liked less than my beloved Bongo, was the P. 1 Matize and/or StingRay, 3 Jazz, 4 Bongo, 5 Precision Hm... best, bert Quote
