louisthebass Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016
These days Paul Geary, http://www.paulgeary.com/, undertakes bass duties for Nik, live and in the studio. There are some live gig videos on his web site.
PG playing bass with NK back in 2012 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQLeiizItK4 I saw the band at the Oxford O2 that year - great gig Quote
Rich Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I've seen still photos of Nik recording the first album, and yes it was a Wal. I love his work. 15 Minutes is one of my favourite ever albums. The guy is criminally underrated. Quote
Wonky2 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 His more recent album " no frills" was great, great guitar pickist Quote
Paul S Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 He was touring with Go West last year, a sort of mix and match of his stuff with Go West's stuff and a few covers chucked in. I saw it twice in a fortnight - once locally and once at the IndigO2 and would reckon the gig at the IndigO2, which was the last night of the tour, is one of the best gigs I have ever seen. They had evidently bonded and it showed. Nik Kershaw is amazing live - massive stage presence and charisma. They are doing a one-off at IndigO2 on December 23rd this year - we have tickets Quote
lowdown Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Dennis Smith using a Wal in 1984. 02:55 there is about 20 seconds close up of him. http://youtu.be/XeqloRjHKBo Quote
SICbass Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016
Yup. MK played bass on the track "Easy" from the Riddle album. A slight change of direction maybe, but Nik sang guest vocals on this track too... (Bass played by our very own JD1)
Good song. Somebody shoot (or cut one foot off) the drummer. Quote
TrevorR Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016
Fred bump. Just seen this on Facebook. Looks like the 80's and Dennis Smith is using a JD. It sounds lovely.
Recall watching NK at Live Aid and spotting that Dennis was playing a Jaydee but had a Wal leaning up against the riser as a spare... Quote
Owen Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 IIRC he was a fusion monster and then realised that fusion was not going to pay the bills. I probably read that on here somewhere. I could be wrong. Quote
Russ Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Ah, a Wal through a chorus pedal. The sound of the 80s right there. Great all-round musician. I might even forgive him all the bad songs he wrote for various boy bands in the 90s. Quote

Conan Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016
Good song. Somebody shoot (or cut one foot off) the drummer.
Fair point - he does overplay a bit.... but then again it is a prog rock/metal band! Quote
