Ant_On_Bass Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Has anyone tried either of these cabs? i want to buy a new cab and both of these i quite like the sounds of :-) just interested to see which people preffer? many thanks Ant :-) Quote
JTUK Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 SWR410 Goliath ll was a CLASSIC cab in their day and a benchmark at the time, IMO If you can find a good SH one, you'll get a LOT of cab for little money. Nowadays Aguilar have stolen their clothes but they are other good 410's around as well. Not a fan of GK... and SWR aren't as pre-eminent as they used to be. On a list of 410's I'd say S/H Eden and SWR of yesteryear... great cabs but Heavy. New/newer. Ag GS410 F/S in the classifieds, the other day, IIRC. Ag DB410 or 2x DB210 which is my choice. Berg 410... in any spec. or 2x210. Not a fan on Ampeg but you could check out them and Genz. Also look at EBS and Epifani..??? Quote
BTGAndy Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Only you can say, I adore the SWR stuff myself, I don't think I'd choose anything else. I can attest to the Goliaths being heavy but they sound ace and can be picked up fairly cheaply second hand. Quote
brensabre79 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 Goliath i and ii = awesome - designed by David Eden as well. After that (iii+) they did decline a bit with each new model and when Fender took over they became a bit bog standard for my liking (but cheaper). I had an early Goliath and I gigged it solidly for 20 years, without a flight case, left it in damp lockups, really gave it a kicking on stage with an 800w power amp. It sounded as sweet the day I sold it last year, as the day i bought it, and the new owner couldn't be more delighted - he's a pro player out gigging it too. Damn heavy but near bulletproof! As for GK, well you're clearly a fan from your Avatar. Personally I've never liked or disliked their stuff that I've tried, but plenty of people i know swear by their amps. in the end only you can decide, but GK stuff will be much more easy to find! Truckstop Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 RBH every time. Just personal preference I suppose; loads of mids, presence and plenty of bass too. IIRC, no tweeters (which I prefer). Truckstop Quote
