sbrag
I been promising myself a fretless for years and have tried a squier vm jazz fretless which seems good value and is nice to play. Just wondering if anyone can recommend anything else worth considering in that sort of budget as there doesnt seem much choice in the shops around bristol. I prefer j necks to p. Any advice gratefully received. Cheers
alyctes
Second-hand Yamaha RBX200F. They are reasonably common, they cost about £100, and mine at least is lovely.
Toddy54
If you have a chance have a go on a Vintage (make) "Jaco" icon series jazz bass, bat well above their price, got one myself a it's a keeper. Come up on the bay s/h now and again usually £150.00 ish.
Paul S
Westone Thunder 1A fretless sometimes pop up and sell for £120-200 depending on condition. They are nice (if heavy).
Bass Lady
A rockbass fretless s/h is always a good bet as Warwick fretless basses (including rockbass) all have ebony fingerboards.
Len_derby
Another call for Yamaha here. I've got a BBN4F that's been great value for money. One went for £168 on Ebay last month. It's got a lined fingerboard, but if you don't like them you can always close your eyes.
such
yeah, those Yamahas have very subtle fretlines. Really good basses all round, too. When it comes to new stuff, make sure to check out LTD Vintage-214 in fretless version. PJ, very Tony Franklin style, unlined fretless, has just been introduced at this year's NAMM. GAK have them for odd 300 pounds. I'm getting one for my birthday
Myke
They had a jaco fretless in PMT and Pianos (mickleburgs) not long ago. Nice to play as well You could defret one of your own? pretty cheap job, if you have one to do it to of course.

Paul S
I hate to sound like a stuck record but there is a nice defretted Westone Thunder in our classifieds at the moment for £95.

sbrag
Thanks. I've pm'd about the westone. I don't think Ive played one in 20 years but do remember that they are a solid chunk of wood but can't remember what the necks are like. Skinnyman
I sold my Squier Jazz fretless and have regretted it ever since. Awesome. Weighed a ton, mind. But sounded lovely
