It's a ridiculous quote really isn't it. I feel sure he doesn't stand by it. It's complete bullshit.

+1, silly, probably said to make an impression but it isn't true.

Still though, much as I like 5 strings, it would be a 4 string for me also!

Good afternoon, all...

It's already been done, and the result was pretty impressive...

...I have the guitar version, but would definitely play one of these.

(...and 4 strings is fine... )

That's almost exactly what I imagined we would come up with! :D

4 or 5 strings doesn't really bother me either way! having different models would seem like a good idea to me, there are enough people on here that 4/5/6 versions would be popular.

is there any intention to actually have these made? a limited edition run by one of the better far east manufacturers would be fun, if the price was low enough i'd find a way to stump up for one (and smuggle it into my house!)

i'm waiting for the pickup debate to start raging so i can suggest some kind of swappable/ moveable pickup design, maybe with a tool-free swappable preamp/control system.

I think it should have four strings for some songs but five for others, so we need a Low B that can sink into the fingerboard and lie flush when not needed. In similar vein, and pre-empting the fretted -v- fretless discussion, it needs to be both of course. That clever design which used to get posted every few months, the one where the frets can sink into the fingerboard and lie flush when not needed, would be ideal.

As to pickups, it needs both one and two. So what we need is a pickup design which can sink into the fingerboard ... oh no ... wait ...

Hey! I've just found a learned bass player who can advise us:

Listen and learn at 0.12... forget the rest after this ;)

See... it's THAT basic!

In order that some day we might actually complete this project I'm going to approach it in this way:
Unless an outrageous string number is most popular , well offer a four and five string version, the majority bass will be the one that I cost up.
The same will apply to the fretted /fretless option.
all of this can be reviewed in the light of future developments.
