binky_bass Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) Hey guys, Time to flip this bad boy again...I really need this gone to afford something here on the lovely BassChat! She's a 1979 Black Ibanez Roadster, 34 years old. Fresh Rotosound strings on her. It plays like a beast, lovely deep flapping tone with the tone dial all the way down, when you switch it up she's really tight with a crisp hi-fi tone. I love it But I need some cash right now. The sound is constantly likened to a musicman stingray, and that's definitely not far from the truth! £230 for that vintage musicman sound? Surely someone?? I'm asking for £230 collected, or £240 delivered in a half decent padded gig bag. (Will pad her out so she's safe!) Shes got a few little scars, but nowt major. There are 2 little filled holes by either side of the strings just above the bridge where I had a midi pickup fitted. I'm on 07912222127 and based in Wickford, Essex. Someone grab this 4 string legend before I change my mind! Russ. topo morto Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Nice to see an old timer looking so shiny. How is it known that it's 1979?
stu_g Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 probably from serial number ive got the active version serial number is on neckplate on mine
binky_bass Posted February 27, 2013 Author Posted February 27, 2013 the serial number does tell you the date, I believe its april 1979. This pictures do make it look shiny! but there are a few scratches and dings as you'd expect for a 34 year old beast.
FlatEric Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 For what it's worth - I had one of these. Cracking bass! Good price for a bass that is well above a lot of other gear at that price. Good luck with the sale.
Truckstop Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 I had this for a while and it's a lovely bass. Really good build quality and that pickup sounds huge. Got a really growly Stingray-esque type sound and loads of volume! This is a fine example of a bass from the golden era of Jap manufacture. Good luck with the sale, Russ! Alex
binky_bass Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 Cheers Alex man, I hope to get this back again at some point if it sells! £250 delivered in the UK... not bad for a 1979 Stringray toned beast. Anyone?
binky_bass Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 No love for a 1979 ibanez Roadster? It's like owning a vintage stingray but for under £250! BUMP!
topo morto Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 To the idiot searching on the idiotnet, there are a bunch of Roadsters (RS-824, RS-900, RS-940...) Any idea which this is?
Emanew Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Bump for a beautiful, well designed and crafted instrument. I love my 1979 RS900 fretless Here the 1979 catalogue
stu_g Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 heres john wetton using the same model as yours in a clip of u.k bad quality sadlyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZJ-eZ0JfKk
binky_bass Posted March 7, 2013 Author Posted March 7, 2013 How can there be no interest in this?? Someone take this old girl!
chrismuzz Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 I don't like modern Ibanez basses, but any from this period are incredible beasts! The comments above about this one sounding like a Stingray are bang on! In fact I much preferred the Ibanez sound, more mids! I'm pretty sure that big single coil pickup is the same as the ones they used in the Musician Bass which is also a wonderful example of Japanese craftsmanship.
stu_g Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 when i got mine i didnt realise it was the same model phil lynott used ive treated mine to a dynacord bs412 as well which is the amp lynott used when they did the rockpalast concert
steve-soar Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 You shower of right handed fools. This is an incredible bargain. If it were a lefty....
mentalextra Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Although its a lovely thing, I hate to be the 'party pooper' but is that a replacement bridge, as the strings look to be placed a little low; the 'G' string looks close to edge of the fretboard. Could be the camera angle but looks like it in 2 pics. I am prepared to stand corrected
Rayman Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Dear reader, If you are browsing the ads for a tarted up, active, single cut, 6 stringed Walnut coffee table, with a wad of cash in your back pocket......... Don't waste your time or hard earned. Buy this bass, and it will give you more love, groove and soul than any toothless 2K plank can ever do, and it'll put a smile on your face, when you remember why......you picked up a proper 4 stringed bass guitar in the first place. If I had £240 I would now own the bass, but I haven't. If you have......what on earth are you waiting for?
binky_bass Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 Haha well said Rayman! And in answer to the last post, she is 100% stock! The bridge and everything else is original and unaltered.
binky_bass Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 Price Drop and slight change in the ad...
