ead
Hi all I've just had a shiny new Yamaha catalogue through the door and couldn't help but notice the new AIR bases. Has anybody tried one at all, either 4 or 5 string? I think they look the part but wonder if the performance matches the hype... budget bassist
They're not that new. I tried one a while back, they weren't THAT great but they had a fairly nice sound and were pretty versatile.
Machines
I picked up one in PMT last week, didn't plug it in but it was very light and played well. Didn't like the 'battleship grey' neck though .
clauster
I had a quick noddle on one yetserday. Very light, nice neck but the price was more than I'd been expecting (mind you, so was everything else in this particular shop).

Be interetsed to hear more opinions as im a big yamaha fan!!
OutToPlayJazz
I've played a couple of them in stores - They look really cool, especially in the white with the blue/green lit up pots, but the playing experience & the sound were very ordinary. pantherairsoft
I have the option to pick one of these these up, but the 5 strin version in White at a knock down price... And I'm tempted. Want a bass I can take out that's not worth over 2k like me others... One I can be a little leas protective over... Bit is still eye catching. This could be the one! Rich
Cool! I like Yamaha basses a lot, I have an RBX765A which was my main fretted bass for years (and is now fretless). It is still the most comfortable 5-string neck I have ever clamped my left hand around, so much so that I got Jon Shuker to copy the Yam's neck profile for my custom build. I think Yamaha basses offer near-unbeatable value for money, certainly with their lower-budget instruments.
pantherairsoft
I used to own a BBG5 about 10 years ago... I think that's what it was called. Was awesome. Edit... Was one of these same finish as well. A mate has it now, covered in dust, may ask for it back http://www.langamers.it/mandricus/musica/i...YahamaBBg5A.jpg These caught my eye when they came out with the light up volume pots etc... And ceramic looking White is always a hi-tech winner. Plus you don't see the 5's that often. redstriper
I have one for sale or trade, it's white, very light and easy to play with a good range of modern jazz bass sounds. PM me if you're interested. Here's a review -

arsenic
I wondered about these myself - especially when I found out that there was a medium scale version - the RBX A2M IIRC. I have seen good and bad reviews about them, but basically I wanted something like Ead said - eye-catching, but something you don't have to be overly protective of......And with the light up controls, it would have to be white
