I need to replace the 1/4" socket on a 1989 FNA as years of abuse have finally bu**ered it. The nice people at Warwick want about £17.00 for one delivered. Maplin have a long reach chassis socket http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Module...O&U=strat15 but before I invest my hard earned £1.79 can anyone tell me if I'm missing a trick here. Does the Warwick version have non-standard dimensions ?

Thanks for that . The Maplins one is a Neutrik, a brand I've used in my day job for years, happy to defer to older & wiser counsel though. I would of responded sooner but the PC PSU died on me this morning. PC Worls clearly have a Warwick employee on loan as they wanted £49.99 for a 400w ATX PSU, the computer shop I usuallu use managed to knock one out at £11.25 !!

Looking at the number of typos in my last response I think perhaps a new keyboard 9or brain) was in order as well. + 1 on not using cheapo connectors, my first line of attack when faultfinding is plugs/leads & sockets.

If its a Neutrik (are you sure at that price?) then it will be every bit as good as a Swithcraft.... get it use it..

PS good luck with th PC repair -- I had a forced on Friday when my pertner spilt a cup of coffee on this keyboard.....

Being a Mac I was forced to strip it dry and clean ad put it back together rather than shell out another £40 !!!!!

If it is a Neutrik at that price then I'd like a dozen please :)

You need to check that price and the spec of the socket... it seems way too cheap for a Neutrik; I'd have thought £7-£10 at least!

Switchcraft seem to have the best "fit" barrel sockets for jack plugs. Dimensions do vary from different manufacturers. I always use the Switchcraft, I think about £6/8 each. I tried others but the jack plug was ever so slightly loose and as the battery is connected as well, the signal was cutting in and out. I always use Neutrik jack plugs too.

only potential problem there is it is well below their minimum order value and delivery will be extra

Good luck

Neutrik do some very cheap parts nowadays - I just bought 200 good quality metal-bodied stereo jack plugs for 93 quid. Made in China, of course.

The jack on my Warwick Thumb was always rubbish, too.
