Goddamn, whilst looking for my next bass and wanting it to be a Reggie Hamilton....

...I then came across this: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/fender-p-bass/533

**

I've never seen something so gorgeous... Anyone want to lend me an active P so I can try it in the band!?

**Only shame is, the don't do a maple neck on the blue/gold!
I recorded a hard rock/metal album (mostly) with my precision last weekend and it sounded amazing! I hated these things for years but am totally sold on them now!
I love the look of them, I had/have my heart set on a Reggie Hamilton Jazz as it has EVERYTHING I want in a bass!

I'm scared a P is a one trick pony as far as musical styles, though... Once I'm out of an indie band, what do I do then!? :)

Although I'm mainly a Jazz Bass player,I have to say that for recording nothing sounds like
a Precision with flatwounds. They just sit so well in the mix, whether they are played either
fingerstyle or with a pick.

Lets think other musical styles that use Precisions:

metal - used by loads of players (Geezer Butler, Steve Harris etc)
punk - Clash, Pistols, etc
slap - check out Forget me Nots with Freddie Washington on his P-bass
Motown - Jamerson, Willie Weeks etc
reggae - used by countless reggae artists, such as Robbie Shakespeare (albeit Jazz bass probably more favoured)

I don't think P basses are confined to indie bands

Mind you I am biased - I have 4 P-basses (a 51RI, a 70RI, a 72 and a 76 fretless)!!!!

I didn't mean one-trick = one genre -- it was a turn of phrase :)

It's suit my band now down to the ground if I got a P but wouldn't a Reggie do more?

Both active, nice looking, Reggie Hamilton has the hipshot d-tuner which would be VERY nice to have...

I dunno what I'm saying anymore, I'd buy them both in an instant but I'm saving for only one....

There's no neck dive, but the strap did slip off my shoulder twice on Friday night...

I've just acquired a Squier Affinity P-bass on loan from my guitarist until the bloke he borrowed it from wants it back.

(Full story cut as it warrants its own thread somewhere else)

Now it's been fixed up, cleaned and had a proper set-up it's great.

I think I might be falling into this club - I've just posted a review of my Squier CV 60s Precision that I have owned for just a few days but am loving already. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=84210

Used to use them in the late 70's in a punk band.
But after 30 years of wandering in the 5 string warwick/status/jazz desert :) I'm back to where it all started for me (after several recent attempts at finding one I liked)

I'm always amazed at how for such a basic passive set up of 1 pick-up & volume, tone how they cut through with a band, probably where they sound best?
Just ordered some GHS 3060's and can't wait.

Let's face it the P bass looks soooo cool, slung low"ish" (not too low though....back can't take it at my age!), although I'd love a Les Paul bass for looks alone.
I finally got enough cash for a Precision bass. It's an MIM Standard, but I can truly say I LOVE this thing!
I've had it for around six months now and I can hardly put it down.:)

I have the same bass MIM LPB / maple, and I agree it is so comfortable to play and not so expensive that i worry to much where I gig it
