Leen2112 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Ok so I'm old....I grew up in the 70's 80's. At the time I hated all 'pop' music and just listened to Rock. Now I listen to Radio 2 at work (planetrock when no one else is in!) and all the old stuff comes on and I often think hey this isn’t so bad. Today I heard Bow wow wow - wild in the country and I was totally struck by how good the bass is. I had to Google him - Leigh Gorman...... I had no idea. I know of other 80's bass players but this guy just seems to be very underrated. Shame I couldnt find any other stuff with him apart from the Ants. Quote
discreet Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 A player I knew at the time was offered this gig and he turned it down. Quote
mep Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Saw them on a TOTP repeat recently anf know what you mean. Buzy but tasty. Quote
dmccombe7 Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 i remember recording them from a live gig somewhere and thinking they were great especially the bass. Agree he was under-rated. i still have the tape recording tho. Dave Quote
BigRedX Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I saw them at the Nottingham Boat Club on the tour they did to promote the "Your Cassette Pet" 8-track cassette album. Probably one of the best gigs I've been to. Great band. Quote
xilddx Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Ahahaha! Yep, he is fantastic, makes his Wal talk. Matthew Ashman was a fabulous guitarist too. Check out Orang Outang, you'll think much of it is guitar, but there's a hell of a lot of superb bass in there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31A_wTH-Xjs Quote
icastle Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Just occurred to me that I've never seen a WAL played with a pick before! Then again I think I was probably out during the 80's. Quote
Bow Wow Wow essentially were Adam and the Ants with a different singer. Leigh Gorman was in Soho, who did that Hippy Chick tune...
