I'm wondering if anyone knows of any packs/ sets from retailers that is a basic setup kit for basic Luthier type stuff. I've a possible bass defret and having read up on the process I would certainly beenfit from buying some extra tools. Is there a basic tool kit out there that you know of? At least I'd have the tools to make a tiny replacement! Shame it is in the US. I don't mind paying for quality tools - some you can get as high quality (but cheaply) as it seems if you put 'Luthier' in front of tool it means you can double the price! Walker Posted March 7, 2013 Share Posted March 7, 2013 (edited) I made my own fret pullers, bought some very cheap end cutters and ground them down to get the sharp edge needed. Took about 20 mins to defret the neck. I bought a feeler gauge and a small steel rule from amazon and some neck radius gauges from ebay. As long as you already have a selection of small screwdrivers and allen keys, you should be alright with that little lot! I do all my setups (and my mate's) with that small tool kit. Add a soldering iron and the world's your oyster! Books: How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great by Dan Erlwine (comes with a good DVD) and Haynes Fender Bass Manual by Paul Balmer have been invaluable.
