Grand Wazoo
I tried a fretless one in my local shop. Nothing bad about it, actually, a fun bass to play, it comes with a very powerful Bartolini humbucker pickup, I would compare it to a stingray on steroids, it has a "slap" switch that as the name suggests, boosts a sweep with lows and highs to give you that characteristic mid cut. Other than that I found my only gripe was with the non organic fretboard, which felt a bit like hardened plastic different in quality to a proper carbon fiber and meant to be in between wood and fiberglass but to me it sounded like neither. A big decision if you can live with that synthetic stuff or not. Price wise, between £350 to £400 if I remember rightly, so not exactly cheap and for that midrange money you can get a lot more different instruments. Oh and... I totally hated the jazzy metal flake paintwork, but I know they also come in real man's colours if one is so inclined. This is what they sound like Edited March 8, 2013 by Grand Wazoo
Conan
I had a five string version and it was a decent bass. I just found it slightly "polite" for my tastes. Not so much soundwise, but I just couldn't set the action quite high enough to allow me to dig in a bit.... Good value if you can pick up a second-hand one and they have quite a useable range of tones. The twin-pickup version would be more versatile though.... Dandelion
Mine. It does not sit too well on the lap, But looks nice. They are very small but with a nice smooth sound. Very portable.
Conan
It does not sit too well on the lap
It does if you play with a kind of "classical guitar" position, with the bass between your legs (as it were...). Grand Wazoo
Not as bad as sitting down with a Bongo, that lower spike really digs into your leg! peted
I had the previous Tanglewood Curbow 4. Gigged and recorded with it and it was a great sounding and playing bass. Best played on the strap as it doesn't sit nicely. Lovely narrow fast neck. Only moved it on because I got the opportunity to buy a Warwick Thumb BO new at the best price I've seen yet. Jack
Briefly owned an original one in red. Loved it but moved it on because it wasn't getting used. Got an absolute bargain at £90, so hunt around for a good price. Oh, and avoid all of the cheap copies using the same body shape. Find one with Greg Curbow's signature on the headstock!
