stingrayPete1977
I have cut it the best I can, looks 'ok' I need to shim them out when I get time as the E side is weaker than the G at the moment and I have wrapped them with thin foam to wedge them in which wont help I know, I am going to slacken the strings off, wrap the pickup tabs in matching black pvc tape until I can just squeeze them in then tighten it all back up and try that. The output is quite weak at the moment but I will see how it is after the pickup are more snug.
keeponehandloose
cut strips of card and fold it over into squares, like a concertina (?). only shim one side of paddles. the thickness of a piece of a puece if paper can make the difference between a good sound or not. stingrayPete1977
Good idea, I see now as one side will be in direct contact with the bridge. Weekend project I'd say.
blinddrew
I have ordered a cheap ebay one just to get me started, hopefully something good will crop up at the right price soon. It is a wing type one so I will try and get it snug then, await many questions......
Hi Pete, out of curiosity, what did you go with for your cheap e-bay option? Just in the same boat myself :¬) Cheers Edited March 15, 2013 by blinddrew

blinddrew
Good stuff, having read a couple more threads here I'm actually going to have a play with one I've pulled out of an old mandolin I have. Will see how that works once I've filed it down and fitted it properly. Cheers
blinddrew
well, filed and fitted. Don't have an amp for it at home but it seems to give a reasonable sound into cubase so off to an open-mic tonight to plug it in for the first time.
stingrayPete1977
Took my Gedo to practice today, I'm getting ok with no position markers now, glad I didnt cheat now, anyway I couldn't get much volume out of it, straight into the Genz 9.2 max worked best, the artec graphic isn't much use at gig volume so it looks like a Fishman plat pro next and they see how the J tone works with it. blinddrew
I've got one of these and then straight into the PA, seems to work ok:
stingrayPete1977
Looks cool, do I need some form of graphic eq though?
keeponehandloose
whatever else you try nothing will work like the Pro plat 2. cut the crap , save your money and just buy one . I wish somebody gave me that advice
stingrayPete1977
That's what I'm thinking, I will start saving then.
TPJ
whatever else you try nothing will work like the Pro plat 2
Not necesarily true. I didn't have success with the PP2, but the Art Tube MP has always been a great tone, with several pickups. Yes the Pro Plat has more features but sometimes less is more. I've actually had a lot of success with an MXR80 of all things.
blinddrew
I just had the Art hanging around because I have a beta 87 mic that needs it, I was fairly happy with the tone given it's all just feeding of a cheap G4M bass
