just joined so be gentle with me.
just adde a bright copper base coat to this body.
there will be cut away sections airbrushed on as if a panel has been removed from the front and rear to show inner brass clockwork workings.
more for fun than any thing else.
its a new ash body that has had the grain partially filled to leave a faint hint of the grain through the lacquer.
its going to be five string 34 inch scale and 24 fret.
the neck will be maple with a rosewood finger board.
still deciding on the bridge . toying
with some sort of mono rail
two vol and two tone pots
more pics as and when i make progress.

A steampunk design bass sounds like fun, keep the pics coming.

Had not really considered it as steampunk! But I guess it is a bit. I just fancied a change from the usual skulls and flames I get asked to do. I was going to paint the copper as riveted panels like a copper jacket water tank with green verdigris patches and streaks but it looked so nice as a solid colour I am keeping it. Lacquer still soft this morning so no work till next week.

This was the effect I got on a strat I painted for a customer. But this copper is so much brighter and I am keeping it

These are the stencils for the insides.
Two sheets ovelayed the lower one will be darker to show a 3d effect. Lots of sanding painting masking and buffing!

I wasn't 100% happy with the finish on the copper in a couple of patches. Couldn't rectify easily so have flatted it back and repainted, so all soft still! I have been busy buying tamiya acrylic modelling paints in various metalic shades as they are so realistically coloured. And loads easier with the airbrush. Still debating weather to finish it all in Matt gloss or satin. Any thought anyone?

Made a little progress. Added some bronze to break up the copper. And applied the stencil work to the rear. Basic design on, a few tweeks here and there and i will be happy with it.
Matt finish at the moment but destined for a high gloss finish I think.

Going to make a brass cover for the controls should finish it off nicely.

Add some more shading and it looks a lot better.
Looks a lot deeper.
Cheers Kev.
