Conan
Well, if the thru-neck wasn't a deal-breaker, these are very nice... Paul S
I believe there would be a number of Peavey basses that fit that bill - Grind, Cirrus? Not exactly like a Jazz, but 2 pickup through neck that is nearer Jazz width than P width - Hohner B Bass. I also have a Westone Pantera Deluxe II X790 which, back in the day, was the Westone flagship bass - 2 pup, through neck (well, set neck) with gorgeous sculpted body. That is *gorgeous*

Fat Rich
I had a think ..and decided my near perfect bass would be a J type bass ( because of the lovely slim necks..and back pick up tone) with a thru neck and 24 frets. Does anyone know of such a beast?
I would say that with a neck-thru design it probably will lose some of that traditional Jazz bass sound. Also 24 frets will require a much smaller body that the usual 20 fret design so it might also not look like a Jazz any more, and the smaller body will also lose some more of that Jazz bass sound. In my experience the Jazz neck dimensions are some of the most copied, plus most basses I've played do the back pickup tone pretty well so I reckon you shouldn't have too much difficulty getting what you want. Though I wouldn't agree 100% with the smaller body being necessary, it is bound to move hardware around enough as to seriously affect the tone & bolt on to thru neck is one extreme to the other too. You would also have to specify exactly which pickup you love the tone of so much.
BigRedX
Neck through might change the sound, but a good luthier should be able to compensate through choice of woods. The Sei Jazz basses with 24 frets don't look too different from the front. Unfortunately the OPs budget IMO is totally unrealistic.

zero9
Through neck is the tricky bit for the budget. I'd look for a s/h Trace Elliott T-Bass if I wanted a 24 fret J type for a smallish budget.
Good point. The neck-thru thing appears to be the problem. Not that it is all that important really IMO... there are good basses with and good basses without. But if the OP wants something in the "J bass" style, then anything but a bolt-on neck is going to seriously increase the price and reduce the choice available... Urban Bassman
Just had a swift look round. The Cort A4 of 24 fret thru neck basses and pretty close to your budget as a new instrument...not a Jazz body shape though but hey 3 out 4. Know nothing about them really but they look pretty good - here's one on ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cort-A4-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Neck-Thru-Construction-and-Bartolini-Pickups-NEW-/390445088042 Might find a second hand one that would come in under budget. The other option might be the ESP LTD B-1004, not Jazz shape but again 24 frets, thru neck and second hand would be the right price. These are pretty good I had one for a while so can vouch for it. I looked at Overwater's Tanglewood Jazzes and they are bolt-on and 22 fret - close but no cigar I'm guessing. Hope this helps.
