Weird Pickup Problem

I've got a Fender Jazz that was upgraded with Wizard 84's before I got it. The problem I have is that when both pickup volumes are the same the volume reduces quite a lot. I've had a look at a wiring diagram and everything looks about right. Any ideas what could be causing it?

Hve you tried swapping the wires around on one of the pickups?

+1 - sounds like out of phase wiring to me. Output is good when the pickups are soloed individually, yes? Like the above poster says, rewire one of the pickups the other way round and see if that solves it.

Yes, the output is fine when one is solo'd or they're both at even slightly different volumes. Thanks for the help, I'll try rewiring one of them

If it still drops when you have both on together, it could be an impedance drop problem. This is common with all J-style basses. Assuming you have sorted out the wiring to make sure they are in phase, then the next cure is to put a .01 mfd capacitor in line between the hot lead of the bridge pickup and the wiper of the bridge volume control. Overall volume of the bridge pickup may drop slightly, but there should be no additional drop when both pickups are on together.

Doesn't that just take all the bass out of the bridge pickup?

There is relatively no fundamental content at that point, anyway, just overtones.

I'll second that iiipopes, I always have to blend in a bit of neck PU with the bridge to avoid losing the low end completely. The BPU on its own just sounds nasal. (mine's 70s spacing though so probably worse than most for that)
