White Cloud Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Yes, definitely not boring....not nice, but not boring. Quote
Dr M Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Ah yes, the Katana. A favourite of books on vintage guitars. Kind like a copy of the Randy Rhodes V with bits sawn off. Quote
drTStingray Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 That looks like a ............ aherm ............slight mistake!! An extension of Leo's design principle that the instruments could be made by unskilled labour - in the case of the body of this one, very by the looks of it. Nice colour though Quote
BigRedX Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013
A Fender that BRX could love ?
Almost... I nearly bough the guitar version once. The bass would need to be a 5-string and they'd have to sort out the headstock and neck joint before I'd consider using it. Quote
bigjohn Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I have a six string version... I never play it. But looking at it fills me with a sense of wonder... Quote

bigjohn Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) Not in Notts. In Stoke. I lent a mate some money and ended up with his guitar. If it was mine I'd have sold it, but feel like It's still his even though I've not seen the bugger for nearly 20 years. I've tried looking for him in the usual places but he seems to have succesfully avoided the 21st century. Edited March 15, 2013 by bigjohn Quote
Dave Vader Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I got offered one of these back in the 90s for a pittance. Luckily it seems not to have gained in value, so I am not so bothered. Quote
GarethFlatlands Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I was just sick a bit in my mouth.... Quote
icastle Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I think someone at Fender was having a bad day.... Quote
mckendrick Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 It's no worse than the Moderene, the Flying V, and the Explorer. Quote
BigRedX Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Having had another better look, I don't really see what all the fuss is about. Essentially it's just a P-Bass with a different body shape. Quote

And two of those have gone on to become icons. One never made it to production. I think that demonstrates that the line between legendary status and dismal failure is a very fine one. Quote
BassTractor Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Lukewarm, me. The design is original, but for from great. Also in my mind this design is a vertical design that is much weakened when you hang the thing in playing position. I do love quirky though, so I'd probably buy it before the same P in the same quality with the regular design - if it was possible to play it, that is. best, bert Quote

But what a body shape - interesting to hear where the inspiration for that came from - looks as random as a spalsh of paint on paper to me!! Quote
BassSwede Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 That looks like a horrible horrible workshop accident. I sure hope no-one was seriously injured when it happened. Quote

chrismuzz Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I kinda like it. Whack a bridge pickup in there and I'd use it! Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Looks more like Lego fender.horrible imho Quote
