Pbassred Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I've see Ipads in a few photos but not at gigs yet. In a situation where you might use a music stand, would you use an Iad (or similar)? Thoughts/ warnings/ recomendations? Quote
thisnameistaken Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 If it was charts an iPad could be a good option, just because you can quickly change keys and stuff. If you're reading dots perhaps paper would be better because I don't think the screen is big enough, although a backlight would be better than a clip-on lamp I suppose so that swings it the other way a bit. The iReal b app for iPad is really cool and almost made me buy an iPad just for that. Quote
xgsjx Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I never use paper at a gig. I prefer to learn the song before playing it in front of people. I do plan on using the iPad at gigs, but using iMPC for playing loops & samples or playing a synth app. Quote
jezzaboy Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 My singer uses a Nexus 7 thing and has a special mount that fixes onto a mic stand. He uses it for the words, set list and says he will have a way of controlling the pa with it in the near future. Quote
Westie9 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I've got the same type of question. BUT, if your in a rehearsal situation and need to make a quick note on the page your looking at on the ipad, is it easy to do? What programmes do people use? Quote

MiltyG565 Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 What's wrong with paper? If it falls off the stand, the worst that will happen is you f*** up, if an iPad falls off, you f*** up AND you've broken a £300 piece of kit! And possibly lost all your notes for the rest of the set. Quote
lojo Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I Play with a keyboard player who's iPad app scrolls the chart at the correct bpm, it does everything, but I fear if it failed or has an issue , the keyboard player would not cope without it. Quote

[/quote] Except that you have no idea what it sounds like to the audience if you're stood on the stage!. I guess you could have a trusted person in the audience giving you hand signals, but if they're doing that then they might as well be controlling the PA themselves. Quote
